Your Puppy's First 30 Days at Home
Days 1–3: Decompression
Most puppies need 72 hours to feel safe. Limit visitors, keep your home calm, and let them set the pace. Don't introduce them to other pets on day one.
Days 4–10: Routine
Establish a consistent crate schedule, feeding times, and walk windows. Book the first vet visit. Start short, positive socialization outings (no dog parks yet — talk to your vet about vaccination timing).
Days 11–20: Training foundations
Lure-based training for sit, down, name response, and recall. Five 3-minute sessions a day beats one 15-minute session. Reward calm behavior — chew toys, sniffing walks, settled time on the bed.
Days 21–30: Expanding the world
Once your vet clears it, take your puppy to new places, surfaces, and sounds. The critical socialization window closes around 16 weeks — make it count, but always in a way the puppy is enjoying.
